How to Fix What’s Wrong with America?
I am going to deviate just a tad from my normal format of beginning with a scripture. Those will come a little later. In answer to the question above, you will hear a plethora of answers all differing in content and validity. I like most of you, have seen our nation go from a God fearing society with morals and the quest for decency, to a nation of God haters, and people who hate anyone or anything that is different from themselves. Our nation was once a haven for people from all cultures and nations, wanting to escape tyranny of many kinds. These were oppressed people, who sought peace and safety for their families. These people desired a better way of life, and they knew that there were opportunities for that better life here in the United States.
Our way of life was coveted so much that people would risk their very lives trying to get here. We have all heard of the boat loads of people struggling to stay alive, found trying to make it to our shores. Our nation was built on diversity and freedom for all. People wanted to have a better life, and would come here to incorporate themselves into our culture because they saw what we had was so much better than what they had. They would learn our language, apply for citizenship, and work diligently to provide a good life for their families. They did not try to turn America into their old country, but rather tried to adapt themselves into our culture and enjoy its benefits. They would keep in their families the things that they held dear from their heritage, but never sought to destroy our culture in doing so. They had a healthy respect for the nation and enjoyed its freedoms, and benefits.
In the 50’s and 60’s for example, we had a family-based happy society for the most part. However, somewhere along the way, we lost sight of the very things that made this nation a sought after haven for decency and morality. Our freedom is the thing people fought and died for. Today, however, we have allowed our nation to degenerate into a nation of Godlessness, and immorality. It has become a place where decent people are fast becoming the minority. It is becoming a nation where government of, by , and for the people is becoming a nation of Government of the government, and for the benefit of politicians and other special interest groups, and honesty, decency, and morality are being tossed out the window.
Moral and social issues are dividing the nation at an alarming rate. We see things that destroyed other nations and cultures rearing their ugly head in our everyday lives. Why do we think that things that destroyed other nations will work here? If they were so great why did people come here to escape them? Government control is now growing to a point that the freedom we once knew is becoming only a memory. Gun control, government and Supreme Court legislation that destroys the moral fabric of our nation, is becoming a daily occurrence. Ever increasing power falling into the hands of corrupt politicians is tearing us apart. Religious liberty (that by the way was why the pilgrims came here in the first place!) is being eroded. We are seeing anything that is good, decent, and honest being portrayed as wrong!
This blog is entitled, “How to Fix What’s Wrong with America?” I am going to tell you how before I am done here. I want to mention a few things that have been in the news recently, first.
We have had school shootings in several cities, where many of our nation’s children were taken from us by people who had lost their sense of right and decency. Some felt they were retaliating for a life of personal mistreatment, bullying, etc. Others simply wanted to kill for the sake of killing. Life for some of these had become a virtual video game where they sought to kill to gain points in some sick delusion. We may never know why some of them did what they did. The result of their actions was however, that lives were destroyed, families were grieved, and futures were taken from people in their youth and others in their prime. We have recently seen Churches being broken into by murderers, and many people senselessly slaughtered. All this was done by people who had lost the ability to value human life in their own minds. The Bible says in Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death”. (KJV)
The reason this is true is the fact that minds are being deluded by the enemy into thinking that good should no longer be aspired to, but rather hated. In Isaiah 5:20 the Word says, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” When Isaiah wrote these words, he was seeing the same thing happening around him and knew that God would not be pleased. In our nation this is the thing that is ripping us apart. Christians are being vilified for their beliefs, and immoral and ungodly people are being lifted up in our society to the point that their actions are causing our government to pass legislation that not only gives them their wants, but in the process takes away the freedom of decent Godly people.
Now please do not get on your bandwagon and start saying I am criticizing others for their desires. You can do what you want to and that is your privilege in our great nation. When you however start taking away my freedoms while you seek to gain yours, you are going against the very fabric or our nation and destroying the same freedom you are trying to gain! Do what you want as long as it does not infringe on the rights and freedoms of others. God will deal with injustice, sin, and all the other things that are growing in our nation. Remember that I have told you before, that the problems in this nation are not with people, but with the enemy who motivates people. Our government and our leaders are becoming his puppets, and are doing exactly what he wants them to do. His desire is to hurt God through the best way he knows, and that is to hurt God’s people. Rest assured, those of you who hate God, that vengeance is HIS and HE will repay. It is not my place to try to do it.
Don’t get me wrong! I will stand up for my freedoms to my last breath! I will fight to protect my family to my last breath. I will do whatever I can to preserve the thing that made America great…freedom to worship as we please and to live a life in peace and safety. In our constitution we are promised the right as American citizens, to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness! But remember this one thing. Your freedom to worship as you please, or live as you want to, does not give you the right to try to stop me from doing the same. Your freedom to practice whatever lifestyle you desire does not give you the right to try to stop me from doing the same.
Allow me to become a bit “Preachy” here for a few moments and I will address the things that are at the heart of the “FIX” for America, and to answer my initial question as well. In first Peter 4:8, the Word says these words: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins”(NIV). I am here to tell you that a lack of love for each other is what is wrong with America! We are instructed to not only love each other deeply, but are told that love can cover a lot of sins!
In 1 John 4:7-8, we are told, “7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (KJV).
The Word says we are to love one another. We are also told that Love is of God, and if we love, we are born of God and know Him. You cannot know true love outside of a relationship with the Lord! It also tells us that if we do not love, we don’t know God. Anyone filled with hatred for humanity is living outside the love of God and outside of a relationship with Him. Don’t argue with me about it, read the Bible!
In John 4:16 we are told, 16 “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them”.
God is love, the scriptures tell us. They also say that if we live in love, we live in God and He in us. You cannot be in a living relationship with God and not be a loving person. It is a part of the nature of a believer, and a child of God. You CANNOT hate people regardless of their color, or lifestyles and be right with God. This is not to say that you condone their practices, but it says that we serve God in love, love our fellow man, pray for them and let God do His work in their hearts. Remember that “Love covers a multitude of sins”!
John 3:16 says this, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. If we believe in Jesus as our savior and trust the Love of God, we can live in love. Remember this YOU have sins too that need to be covered! None of us are perfect. Our perfection is in Jesus. When we join our hearts and lives to Him through faith, we start living in love and the Love of God is spread across our hearts and is shown to those around us. Love one another!
Senseless killings, racial hatred, government oppression, all these things are covered by the Blood of Jesus, and made perfect in Love. This may be difficult to understand and to grasp, but friends, when you love the world like God did, you will realize that Jesus died for all, and that there is no one too far into sin that He cannot save. You must keep your own heart pure and right and pray for those who do not. You are not their judge, God is. You DO have the responsibility to pray for them and to love them like God loves them. We can hate the sin, but we are to love the sinner!
I Timothy 1:1-2 says this in conclusion: 1 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty”.(KJV)
Prayer changes nations and certainly changes individuals! Love others as you want them to love you and then the things that are wrong with our nation will start to change. It starts with you! As the old saying states, “Revival begins in you”. If there are those you hate, pray for them. If your heart is right, then you will see them change. The prayers of a righteous man avail much!
What is wrong with America? We have forgotten how to love! Only YOU can fix it! You fix it by loving one another. Will you?
