Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT)

22 The faithful love of the Lord never ends!

His mercies never cease;

23 Great is his faithfulness;

his mercies begin afresh each morning.

At the corner of my carport there is a small flower bush.  Now mind you, I am not a horticulturalist, and have no clue what kind of flower it is.  All I know is that it has cute little purple flowers on it about the size of a half dollar.  The interesting thing is that when I come home in the evening, the flowers are gone.  For a while I thought they were so fragile that the wind was blowing them away, as from time to time I would see one lying on the ground beneath the bush.  However upon further investigation, I discovered that they were simply closing up each afternoon about 4 to 5 P.M.  When I drive back into the carport coming home from the office, they are not showing at all.  When I drive out in the early mornings, they are already in full bloom welcoming me to another day.  I have gotten quite fond of those little flowers and their neat “disappearing act”.

One day as I was looking at them from my car window, the scripture came to my mind about the Lord’s mercies.  They are fresh or as one version says, “New” every morning.  Just like those little flowers, God’s mercies are new to us each day and sufficient for the day.  There is enough for the day, nothing lacking.  Our God is faithful, and his mercies never cease.  Every day there is a new batch just waiting for us to meet our every need.  Remember when you may be tempted to think that God is not caring about you, that he got up very early in the morning and prepared everything you need to get you through the day.

As David the Psalmist said it so well, “the Lord Is my Shepherd, I shall not want”.  That word “Want” means to be in need or to lack.  God’s children have an ever-present, ever-caring Father.  He knows you by name and he is there for you better than any earthly father could ever be.  Through the presence of the precious Holy Spirit, he walks along side of you along the way.  The Holy Spirit is our “Comforter”.  The word in the Greek for comforter is “Paraclete”.  The words it is derived from mean “One who walks along side of”. God walks along side of us every day, all day long.  He promises to “Never leave us nor forsake us”.

When you awaken tomorrow, think of my little purple flowers, and be reminded that God has His mercies all fresh and new just for you to reach out and claim them.  They are yours…enjoy them!

God is good….All the time!

Blessings!
